1st Year

Anatomy: Class is well organized. The class consists of two lectures per week, two labs and there are also clinical seminars in the morning. Most of the doctors teaching you speak very good English. The places where you have labs have been recently renovated and are pretty nice. All the specimens are already prepared for you, so you do not do any dissections. There is one cadaver per group but you also get to have some spare body parts. Lab groups are fairly small consisting of 6 people per group. Lab groups last for 2.5 hours. Unfortunately there are no open lab hours, only before the final exam there are open hours. Or you can sneak in-between classes for about a half hour. Exams consist of two parts; Multiple choice questions (MCQ) and a pin test. You have an exam after each body section. The final exam consists of three parts: pin test, MCQ and an oral examination. You have to pass each one in a consecutive order to be allowed to take the next one. The person in charge of the Anatomy Department is Prof. Ciszek (Neurosurgeon).

Biochemistry: This class is very well organized. It runs like a well oiled machine. The class consists of two lectures per week, one seminar and a total of 8 labs. All the professors and Teaching assistants speak very good English. There are two semestral exams and one final exam. These exams are MCQ format. There are smaller lab quizzes in each lab. The lab quizzes are usually written. Head of the Department is Prof. Baranczyk. (Biochemist and MD)

Physiology: This class is not organized well. There are some professors that are great but there are others that do not teach so well. Student Government is currently working on changing this situation. Most students found that cardiology system, circulatory system, respiratory system and nephrology system were taught the best. This class consists of two lectures per week.  There are three exams throughout the year plus one final exam. These exams are in MCQ format.

Immunology: This is a very good class. You are taught by two professors who are in charge of the Immunology Department. They both speak excellent English. The class consists of one seminar per week and one lecture class per week. There are small quizzes in every seminar class and one big final exam. The format of questions is MCQ format. (Class duration is for one semester)

Histology
:
A very well organized class. All of the professors with the exception of one speak excellent English. The class consists of two lectures per week and two laboratory classes. Lectures are taught by various professors who have specific experience in a given topic. Laboratory classes consist of going over histological samples under a microscope. Examination consists of two parts a MCQ exam and a histological slide exam. There are about three quarterly exams and one final exam. Before exams you get a couple sets of slides per group which you can look at under the microscope in the medical library. Last year the department also lent out two microscopes per group that the students could take home and study the slides there. (Class duration is for the entire year)

Embryology: This class is taught by the same professors from the Histology department. This is a fairly short class that is taught for three weeks and then you have a final exam. The format of the exam is written.

Cytophysiology: This is one of the classes that is not taught in medical schools in the US, but is taught in most medical schools in Europe. The class deals with cell physiology. Again the class is taught by professors from the Histology department. The class consists mostly of lectures but there are some labs as well. The exam is pretty difficult because of its organization. It consists of multiple-multiple choice questions. (Class duration is for 3 months)

Latin: This is a class that you have to take because of tradition. Latin has always been taught in all medical universities in Poland and it also is required for English medical students. The lady teaching the class is very nice. (Class Duration is for the entire year)

Polish: Most students in the 4 year program get frustrated with this class because it’s a class for which you don’t have a lot of time for. The university requires you take the class unless you have some polish language knowledge. The class is taught by two ladies who speak excellent English. They are very nice and try to accommodate most students with polish class during major exams through out the year. The class is designed to allow you to gain some language skills so that when you start your clinics at the hospital you can communicate with the patient. (Class duration is for two years – 1st year is general basic polish and the 2nd is clinical polish)

Genetics
:
This class is divided into three sections. In the first year you have general genetics. In the 2nd year you have medical genetics where you learn about all the genetic diseases and there etiology. In the 3rd year you have clinical genetics, where you actually see patients with genetic diseases.  There is one professor who teaches all the English classes is a young lady who speaks very good English. She is very relaxed and most students enjoy the class.

Biophysics: This is another class that is not taught in the US but it is taught in Europe. The class is taught by one older professor who speaks “ok” English. In this class you mostly learn about certain physiological physics and how it pertains to machines that we use in medicine. So you learn about how a Doppler works, how a CT or MRI works. The class is very short because it only lasts for about two months. The final exam is in written format.

Embryology- An introduction course is offered at the beginning of the second semester which offers the basics of the high yield topics. This is later reinforced by other classes covering embryological topics, such as anatomy. It is well-organized and taught by the same professors who teach histology. The final consists of multiple-multiple choice questions.

Behavioral Science- this is one of the more poorly taught classes. There will be measures taken to improve the organization, but as of now, students are relying on books for the final examination.

Sport- A required class to ensure that students take regard mind and body in there studies. No one wants to be treated by a doctor who refuses to take care of him/herself.
It is held once a week and students usually have the choice to participate in activities ranging from volleyball to ping-pong.
